STC/MS Wins Award
Catastrophic Events,
an STC/MS module developed by Carol
O’Donnell at the National Science Resources
Center (NSRC) and published by Carolina, has
won a Mark Trail Award from the National
Weather Service. The award, which was
created 7 years ago, honors individuals,
groups, and local governments for their
efforts to expand the
National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Weather
Radio coverage across the nation and to make
the portable device, which broadcasts severe
storm warnings, more accessible. The
Catastrophic Events kit includes an NOAA
Weather Radio.
Mark Trail,
a syndicated comic strip published in approximately 175
newspapers, has been the “official” spokesman for NOAA Weather
Radio since 1997. Jack Elrod, the creator, writer, and
illustrator for Mark Trail, became involved with NOAA
Weather Radio in 1995, featuring it in a Sunday comic strip.
Approximately 15 awards are given out each year.
