Overview
Learning
Through STC®
Promote Learning Through Investigation
and Discovery
Many educators have found that students learn better
"by doing." This is especially true in the
sciences. Thats why Science and Technology for
Children® (STC®) was
developed.
With
STC, youll engage your students in investigation
and discovery activities using everyday materials
along with basic science equipment. This hands-on,
motivational approach captures childrens natural
curiosity and stimulates their interest. The result
is that students learn more science.
STC
Provides Complete Instruction
Not only will STC help you to teach important science
concepts, youll promote critical-thinking skills
as well. With STC units, students will participate
in a variety of exciting activities involving observation,
measurement, identification of properties, and controlled
experiments involving life, earth, and physical science
concepts. The direct student participation means that
you dont just teach scienceyour students
discover it!
Developed
by Experts
STC was developed by the National Science Resources
Center (NSRC), which is operated jointly by the Smithsonian
Institution and the National Academy of Sciences.
Each unit was rigorously researched and constructed
and then fine-tuned with input from teachers and children
in schools across the country. The result is a sequence
of lessons that students enjoy and genuinely learn
from and that teachers can effectively manage and
assess.
Everything
You Need Is Included
Every STC unit is a comprehensive package containing
everything you need for a class of 30 students to
cover a key science topic in eight weeks. Each unit
comes in one or more large, durable plastic containers
with hinged, lockable lids for easy and safe storage
and transport. Components include:
- Teachers
Guide - its depth and detail help separate STC
from other science programs.
- Student
Activity Books - guide students through each
lesson as well as help extend and apply their new
knowledge.
- Materials
- all equipment required for each lesson is
furnished except some items commonly found at home
or in your classroom.
