Water in the Freshwater Aquarium
Water is the most important ingredient in an aquarium. The water you provide is crucial to the survival of the aquatic organisms. Before the organisms arrive, have ready either bottled spring water (not mineral water) or conditioned tap water.
To prepare the conditioned water, fill 2 of the holding pails provided in the kit with tap water.
Dechlorinate it by following the directions on the tap-water conditioner. Let the water sit until it reaches room temperature. Replenish the conditioned water as you use it. Always keep some extra room-temperature conditioned water in the classroom.
Note: If you used all the pails to hold soil in Lessons 3 and 4, rinse them out with water onlydo not use soap. Be sure to remove all soil debris or you will contaminate the aquarium.
