Animal Studies Living Material Change
In April 2003, the U.S. Department of Agriculture notified Carolina that land snails can no longer be shipped throughout the United States. As an interim solution, Carolina substituted pill bugs and sow bugs for the land snails used in the Animal Studies unit. After considerable review, the NSRC, developer of the STC program, determined that the best replacement for land snails will be millipedes. Therefore, in September 2003 Carolina began shipping millipedes, instead of land snails, for use in the Animal Studies unit. Find out how to adapt your Animal Studies activities to fit the change in living material.
