What’s new:
Properties of Matter changes
|
1.
|
The 3 types
of solder in the kit were discontinued by the manufacturer and have
been replaced by solder pieces of a slightly different chemical
composition, which changes the melting point of each. |

|
The small
metal trays (97-4557, pack of 15) were originally used for melting
the solder. They have now been replaced by small aluminum pans
(70-2338, pack of 100) for this purpose. |
| |
These
changes require revised instructions in the unit teacher’s guide and
student guide. If your Properties of Matter unit was
purchased before April 2006 and you have bought or plan to buy the
new replacement solder (either separately or as part of the kit’s
refurbishment set), you’ll want to
download the errata sheet set (PDF).
The errata set also addresses the use of potassium permanganate in
elementary and middle schools. Some schools and districts do not
allow the use of this chemical in K8 classrooms or labs, so we have
included alternatives for the teacher to consider for Lessons 1, 6,
and 12. |
