	Kits for Grades K–5
	Each Building Blocks of Science® unit includes a Teacher’s Guide and enough materials for a class of 24 students for kits matching grades K-2, or 30 students in kits matching grades 3-5. The Teacher’s Guide includes objectives and standards, materials preparation steps and class time requirements, background, vocabulary, procedures, assessments, ideas for cross-curricular extensions, and blackline masters for assessment, student procedures, and data sheets. Building Blocks of Science® units integrate process skills as defined by the National Science Education Standards and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Life Science

Discovering Animals
(Kindergarten)
Students explore, sort, compare, and experience the similarities, differences, and basic needs of animals. Live pond snails and redworms encourage students to observe carefully, look closer with a hand lens, draw what they see, discover how parent and offspring are alike and different, and more!

(Kindergarten)
Give students inquiry-based experiences using the senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Students record how tools such as 3-D glasses change our perception of objects. Students make predictions, document findings, and explain reasoning through class discussions and science notebooking.

Patterns All Around
(Kindergarten)
Bright blocks, real seashells, white clouds in a blue sky, finding the moon, and the school bus stopping at the mailbox—is there a connection? Build on students’ intuitive sense of patterns with a series of 7 lessons developed for today’s kindergarten scientist.

Push, Pull, Go
(Kindergarten)
Build it, push it, and watch it go. Students discover the patterns of how objects move in a series of lessons about motion. In the tradition of Rube Goldberg, your young scientists build action toys that move. Students build a grade-level-appropriate concept of systems and an understanding of moving objects.

Energy Works!
(Grades 3–5)
Students build an electric circuit, connect a solar cell, light a bulb, and set a buzzer buzzing and a motor spinning. Actively working through a series of 5 lessons, students trace the flow of energy through a circuit and explore alternative, potential, and kinetic energy in systems powered by wind, sun, and water.

Digging Earth Materials
(Kindergarten)
Soil, rocks, and water are naturals with kindergarten scientists. This unit begins with student pairs describing and sorting a set of 8 rocks and minerals, chosen for color, pattern, and high interest. Students ask questions, make predictions, and build age-appropriate understandings of earth materials.
