Utilizing Wisconsin Fast Plants® materials, students work in teams to
execute experiments and collect data. As they progress through the unit
students identify the variables that affect the growth, health, and
reproductive capabilities of plants. Student teams choose a variable to
study and determine ways to manipulate the variable. Each student team
formulates a question they would like to answer involving one of the
variables that affect plant growth.
The STC Program™ is a basal, inquiry-based science curriculum for grades K–10 that covers life, earth, and physical sciences with technology. STC™ was developed by the National Science Resources Center based on research into how students learn best. The NSRC was established by the National Academies and the Smithsonian Institution.

By the end of the unit your students will understand that:
  |
Experiments are designed to test a hypothesis |
  |
Experiments may be designed to identify the
effects of variables on the stages in the life
cycle of a plant |
 |
Collecting, evaluating and sharing data are
parts of the conduct of a scientific experiment |
 |
Scientists conduct a variety of investigations
to discover new information about variables that
affect plant growth |
