In Ecosystems Lesson 3, students set up model aquatic habitats.

Ecosystems

Explore the delicate balance of nature in this earth science unit for grades 4-6. Your class will study the interdependence of organisms as they build ecocolumns, an impressive setup where terrestrial and aquatic habitats are connected and share water and nutrients. Students will also study how humans upset this balance by planning and executing pollution experiments. Students present findings from their column and outside research at a mini-symposium.

The STC Program™ is a basal, inquiry-based science curriculum for grades K–10 that covers life, earth, and physical sciences with technology. STC™ was developed by the National Science Resources Center based on research into how students learn best. The NSRC was established by the National Academies and the Smithsonian Institution.
